A secluded mountain lake in the middle of a forest with a cosy alpine farmstead where to take a rest.
Our hike starts at the “Säge” car park (1500 m), that can be reached via Kastelbell/Castelbello (600 m) in Vinschgau/Val Venosta. We are unlikely to work up an excessive sweat on this walk in the shade of the Nörderberg/Monte Tramontana – even in the height of summer. The comfortable forest path leading to the Marzoner Alm (1600 m) is just as enjoyable.
The path rises moderately to the so-called Schweinstall and then heads steeply upwards to the Zirmtaler See (Zirmtal Lake – 2114 m) where we are met with a magnificent view and an idyllic alpine farmstead.
The efforts of the last climb are soon forgotten at the sight of this alpine jewel and our eyes gratefully take in our first impressions.
We descend via the same route.
