Kofelraster Lakes in Ulten – Summit Hike to Hoher Dieb/Gran Ladro
Along the ridge between Ultental/Val d’Ultimo and Vinschgau/Val Venosta to two of the most beautiful high-alpine lakes, with an additional climb to the summit of Hoher Dieb/Gran Ladro. The starting point of this hike is the Steinrast Inn (1700 m) near Kuppelwies in Ultental/Val d’Ultimo.
A moderately steep path leads through a shady forest and across mountain pastures up above the tree line to a simple farmstead (2187 m). Shortly afterwards we reach the Kofelraster Alm (2312 m) and finally arrive at the southern half of the Kofelraster Lake (2405 m) which is connected to the northern half (2407 m) by a steep boardwalk. The peak of Hoher Dieb/Gran Ladro protrudes up into the sky; the climb takes about an hour. The peak offers a breathtaking view of the Ötztaler Alpen/Alpi Venoste and the Ortler Gruppe / Gruppo Ortles-Cevedale. We descend via the same path.
